The Devil’s Gate Outfit is a septet featuring a stellar lineup of Wellington's creative jazz musicians including members of the Phoenix Foundation, Orchestra of Spheres, Six Volts, Little Blast Orchestra and Louis Baker’s band. The Devil’s Gate Outfit plays all original compositions, with an emphasis on exploring sophisticated yet unorthodox forms. The group boasts a huge timbral palette, from Indonesian gamelan to synthesizers. The group was formed specifically for the post-lockdown live gig environment, where a socially distanced, seated audience is required and has performed two highly successful residencies at Meow and was a finalist for Recorded Music NZ Te Kaipuoro Tautito Toa | Best Jazz Artist for their album ‘Jazz From The Underground Nightclubs Of Aotearoa Volume 5’ which was recorded live at Meow.
