simple ∞ animal are Wellington musicians who have been writing and performing original music since the 1980s. Most trace their roots back to The Rodents, Hulamen, and Holidaymakers. Those bands knew how to put on a show, with spontaneous chaos and special guests that once included a fire-breather.
simple ∞ animal follows on from those traditions, where every show is a party! And the guests for this show include Peter Marshall (Holidaymakers), Bill Lake (Rough Justice, Pelicans), and Kerry Wood (Violinist).
Singer and guitarist John McDougall (Hulamen, Holidaymakers, Good Bastard) writes songs of raw emotion that can pull at your heart strings. And also catchy tunes and funky rhythms to get your body moving.
Powerhouse singer Annie Ruddock has soul to burn. The newest member came in to add harmonies in the studio and impressed so much the band asked her to join.
Keyboard maestro John Niland (The Rodents, Hulamen, Fallen Horses, Shadowblasters, Good Bastard) founded iconic label Eelman Records, and has released several solo albums featuring solo piano, keyboards under his own name in a range of eclectic genres. His playing is sometimes quirky, sometimes spacious, always unique.
Guitarist and singer Steve Jessup (Rough Justice, Hulamen, Holidaymakers, Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra, Good Bastard) is renowned for his tasteful licks and laid-back guitar style.
Bassman Murray Costello (The Mockers, Let’s Planet, The Inhalers, Wooden Box Band) adds melodic and energetic basslines to anchor the songs.
Drummer Tim Robinson (Hulamen, Neighbours, Brainchilds, Sven Olsen's Brutal Canadian Love Saga, Good Bastard) lays down dynamic grooves, using different sounds and techniques as only he can!
Lighting Design by Ged Taylor of WIIO Productions. Sound by Andrew Downes of Home Run.
