Take Five: Top Five Adam Sandler Movies By Teenage Joans

Self-proclaimed "juice-box punk-pop" duo Teenage Joans have gone from strength to strength since taking out the crown for triple j's Unearthed High in 2020. Hailing from Adelaide, Tahlia Borg and Cahli Blakers formed in 2018 when they were literal teenagers, and have now toured with the likes of Amy Shark, Violent Soho and The Chats. Their newly released debut album, The Rot That Grows Inside My Chest, is filled with soaring pop punk anthems that will have fans moshing in no time. We're stoked to sit down with the grunge girls as they take us through their favourite Adam Sandler movies!

The Wedding Singer
It's no secret that we're huge Adam Sandler fans, but when it comes to our favourite of his co-stars, Drew Barrymore always takes the cake! This movie is iconic, from the costumes, to the hairstyles, to the soundtrack - this is definitely one of his best. Somebody Kill Me and Grow Old With You are essential tour road trip singalongs for us!
Bedtime Stories
From quoting a scene from this movie in our song 'You're Not The President' ("when I say Barry you say Nottingham!") to trying the iconic Bedtime Stories sand-ler-wich for our 5 Things Instagram series (two rice cakes filled with toothpaste, bananas, and wheat germ), at this point this movie is just a part of our brand...
Happy Gilmore
It's a classic - if you're making a top 5 list you'd be criminal to not include Happy Gilmore! This movie is the closest we get to being fans of sport, if you ever see Tahlia at the airport she's most definitely wearing the Boston jersey he wears in the movie! We try to embody the energy of Adam screaming at the golf ball when we're on stage.
Click
It's not as iconic as some, but it definitely hits a soft spot for us. We love seeing Adam in a more serious role, and the plot is just as interesting as it is entertaining. Plus, the ending hits HARD - we finish the movie in tears every time!
The Waterboy
This one is just jam-packed with good old unhinged Adam Sandler - and we LOVE it. Kathy Bates absolutely nails the role of his crazy mum, and we're constantly quoting either her or Adams character Bobby on tour. And look, we'll admit, it's not a "good" movie, but it's a damn CLASSIC!
