Queensland's once-thriving live music scene is calling on the Queensland Government to create a level playing field for live entertainment venues.

While strict rules have been relaxed for venues like Suncorp Stadium to host 50,000 fans for the State of Origin, live music venues are still facing reduced capacity and heavy social distancing restrictions. This unfair playing field has led to local venues unable to break even, with thousands of people out of work.

At last week's Queensland Music Awards, Fortitude Music Hall director and former Powderfinger bass player John Collins took the opportunity to call on Australia's political leaders to create a level playing field for live entertainment venues. "It's seriously time to play fair," he said, pointing out that his venue was operating at 30% on the night, while a full house of 50,000 came out to watch the State of Origin decider at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium last November. 

The Play Fair initiative invites live music lovers to sign the online petition to put an end to crippling restrictions.
